Orkney IFA Ltd was established in July 2005 by the two remaining partners of Alastair Macleod IFA, Thorfinn Rendall and Steve Smith. Both had been the mainstay of the firm, providing independent financial advice to the residents of Orkney for many years. Since then, Orkney IFA Ltd has offered a highly personal and confidential financial advisory service which has become even more popular since the banks are no longer able to provide financial advice to island residents.
Steve retired at the beginning of 2013, following the introduction of the Retail Distribution Review. Having served his clients well for so many years, the requirement for the higher level of qualification required of the new rules only served to hasten his retirement.
Orkney IFA has otherwise continued unchanged, and the team who are on hand to continue to serve the residents of the island are:
Thorfinn Rendall is known to a great many residents of the island having provided financial advice to so many for longer than he cares to remember. Determined to continue to serve his clients well, Thorfinn successfully attained the new qualifications required of the new regulations and continues to advise existing, and many new clients, in all areas of financial planning. He advises both personal and corporate clients and has a good knowledge of all areas of financial planning.
David van der Hoeven is known to a great many islanders having been a regular visitor since 1999. Originally introducing his specialist pensions knowledge to the business, David has now joined the advisory team and is registered to provide advice in all areas of financial planning. His qualifications and experience, particularly in the pensions sector, are widely recognised and he is a Senior Examiner for the Chartered Insurance Institute. David is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and an Associate of the Pensions Management Institute. He has also been awarded the title of Chartered Financial Planner.
Andy Green joined the Company in 2014. He is well known in Orkney having worked locally in the Bank of Scotland and the Royal Bank of Scotland. Andy's career in financial services spans 33 years - working in banking, bancassurance and wealth management throughout the Highlands and Islands. Andy has brought another dynamic to the Company. He works with corporate and commercial clients by providing advice on business protection and guidance in respect of occupational pensions.
